Commissioned by a Sultan himself and gifted by the Royal court to their owners, the SQ oils carry a pedigree no other oud can claim.
Each year fewer remain. Most are kept under lock and key by collectors who no longer care what the market might pay.
The wood
A treasury behind the still
With the budget and logistics of a state treasury behind it, the wood gathered for the SQ oils was immaculate, the largest artisanal operation of its time.
A kilogram of sinking material then cost perhaps a few hundred dollars. Today it would be closer to one hundred and fifty thousand.
Soil wood
Formed in the earth
Agarwood that did much of its forming in the ground. Powdery, with fibres so delicate the wood almost crumbles in the hand, and an aroma more delicate still.
In Taiwan nothing is honoured above it, not even sinking grade.
Never distilled
No other like it
Oud oil captures the whole of a tree in a form you can simply wear. Drawing those layers out of soil wood takes immense skill, and no other soil distillation is known.
Nothing like Purple Cola exists in the oud world.
