Surrounded by the oud powerhouses of Malaysia & Indonesia, Brunei's oud is the pound for pound champion. For such a tiny region, it produces some of the greatest oud there is, essentially becoming the Nha Trang of Borneo -  no other region here gives the sense of joy that Brunei does. 

Unique aroma, eye watering quality & consistency are but a few reasons to list for why we've fallen in love with this region. Yet for all its incense, artisanal oud oils from Brunei are painstakingly rare to come across. 

But with the right vision and the right material, alongside the right process - absolute beauty can be achieved with its illustrious & precious oud. 

It's no wonder then that this entire batch was claimed by a member of royalty in the Gulf. When we were invited to survey this collection, we were promptly told that Brunei would not be possible, for a VIP had reserved it all. Desperate to ensure the collection was complete for our clients, we pleaded unlike for any other oil, to be able to own just a little.

After receiving just a tola (12 grams) of this magnificent oil, this was a true moment of elation for us, for after so much graft - the collection was now complete. Joining its siblings in the Nawadir Al Arab collection, is this extraordinary Brunei oil distilled in the late 2000s.

A natural orange & red coloured oil, it elegantly opens with notes of nuts & spices, sharply transcending into a honey & salted caramel like sweetness retaining a slight slight salty and medicinal like tone. The ensuing sweetness infused oud base, with notes reminiscent of Kinam, truly remind one how special this creation is, as it. beautifully brings a fragrant unicorn to light - Brunei Kinam.

Kinam in this region is not unheard of, it is shrouded in mystery & hotly debated by collectors & vendors across different traditions. Yet oud oil in the hands of the right distillers with the right material know no such bounds, whether it be Hainan & Hong Kong or Vietnam or Thailand - we've collected kinam like oils from them all.

Before there were legends such as Fragrant Harbour & Nha Trang Qinan - crafted in Taiwan - hailing from one of the greatest distillers of oud known. They conveyed an entirely different story, in an aromatically unique way, representing the DNA of the Taiwanese oud tradition - forming the corner stone of a truly zenith collection. 

Arabian style oils are a genre often overlooked and forgotten by artisanal collectors, unfortunately due to the reputation of poor quality & diluted oils sold in this region, with barn & funk like aromas.

Yet for those in the know & well connected, this is absolutely not the case, for the elite collectors at our level Arabian oils are some of the cleanest & mesmerising oils there are, with the likes of our Silani oils & Tigerwood Terengganu but a few to name.
